Abstract

Abstract [en]

The subject of this graduation work is Suurpea sanatorium which was created on the Pärispea peninsula. The aim of the project was to increase the awareness of the Pärispea Peninsula and Lahemaa National Park by restoring an abandoned building and creating a pleasant resting place for people of all ages. The author's idea was to design a sanatorium complex, which with its architectural design would continue the surrounding landscape and highlight the old forgotten building. The author was inspired by the Andrum Spa building in Sweden and the spa building in Canada. The selected spa buildings were a good example of the use of history and landscape. The final idea of the project did not differ significantly from the original idea, but the project solution was changed several times during the design process. The project focused on restoring the past and connecting it with the present, giving people a reason not to forget old abandoned places, but to give them new life. The Suurpea sanatorium was designed to give life to the abandoned place. As part of the project solution, the old building has been restored and a new building is planned next to it, which is connected by a historical corridor.
