Abstract

Osa 2 - Metallkatused.

Abstract [en]

This final paper "TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS FOR ROLLED METAL ROOFS. STUDY MATERIAL FOR CONSTRUCTION TINSMITH TRAINING" has been compiled due to the need to create a supplementary and comprehensive material on building rolled metal standing seam roofs, which could be used for training construction tinsmiths in Estonia in the future. Particular attention has been paid to solving the most complicated joints and seams that most frequently pose problems, and also solutions that can improve the work quality and efficiency have been presented. The compiled material contains technical solutions that have not been dealt with in Estonian language earlier, as well as instructions for completing the solutions. The construction of seam joints in this final paper fully conform to the valid Estonian Standard EVS 920-2:2013 “Requirements for Roof Building. Part 2 – Metal Roofs”. In this final paper, the author provides the first thorough material in the English language on building rolled metal roofs and making the details, from drawing templates to the actual completion of seams and joints. Each work process is illustrated by a number of photos, which give a better overview of how the work is performed, and in addition, detailed explanations and instructions are provided. The final paper deals with building a proper roof hatch, making and forming a conical tube of sheet metal, building neat roof flashings around chimneys by using two different methods, folding a spout to the end of a roof gutter, using the Pittsburgh seam to form more complicated details, the possibilities of using other types of seams, and the different variants of connecting the sheet to the upstanding masonry wall. This final paper does not contain all the necessary knowhow on building rolled metal standing seam roofs and therefore, there will be a need for compiling additional instruction materials in the future.
