Abstract

Kusjuures enamus kõikidest vanusegruppidest tõid välja põhjuseks teadmiste puudumise, seega on see suureks murekohaks.

Abstract [en]

The title of this Final Thesis is Estonian Youth Readiness in Equity Investments. This thesis contains of 53 pages, includes 19 illustrations and 36 references in total. The subject of the thesis has become important, as there are billions of euros of free money in the accounts of Estonian banks, which essentially stands without interest. It provides a much better opportunity for entrepreneurs and individuals to invest money than it was five years ago. However, one major obstacle to not investing your money is the low risk tolerance. At the same time, the money in the current account is allowed to stand where its value declines over time. The aim of this thesis is to find out the readiness, awareness and obstacles of Estonian 18-26 year olds to invest in equities. There were five tasks completed to fulfill the aim which were to describe the different ways of investing and the principles of investing, describe the essence and return of the shares, assess opportunities to start investing in equities, develop empirical research methodology and conduct a questionnaire based on it and to analyze research findings and draw conclusions on equity investment activities. Research materials were collected using online survey. The main findings of the study are presented in figures and a deductive approach was used to draw conclusions. Research shows that the activity of Estonian young people investing in equities is rather low and at the same time, there are large number of people who have not done it, but would certainly like to do so if someone were to teach them. These results suggest that teaching financial literacy or investment electives already in high school could help to solve this problem. This would give all investment enthusiasts the necessary knowledge from experts and thus enable them to increase their monthly income in the future. Increasing analytical skills through different subjects would also be a great help, as there are many indicators to measure the success of a company, and because of the large amount of information, it is difficult to recognize the data needed to compare.
