Abstract

Abstract [en]

The following graduation thesis is Revitalisation of J. Poska 41, where I concentrate on revitalising the Poska street 41 building - one of the most prominent examples of the Kadriorg sloboda settlement. As the context around it has dramatically changed over time, it became clear that a simple restoration in this case is not the best course of action. Instead, a more ambitious approach is needed. Highly valuing the original appearance of the building, I decided to keep the frontal side of the house, thus keeping its look when viewed from the street. The interior and the side seen from the backyard are where the changes begin with a bold modern approach. It was necessary to change the internal architecture dramatically and the scope of the building expanded towards the backyard as well as vertically, which means that the attic became a usable space as well. Also the cellar in the backyard was rebuilt. This is how a former simple priest house was reborn as a luxurious spa hotel with many guest apartments. The goal set in this final theses to create a modern, prominent and noticeable building from an existing and historically valuable material was met.
