Abstract

Abstract [en]

The main objecitve of the thesis was to design stage costumes for the band Estraadiraadio, including the design, constructing the patterns, choosing materials and doing the necessary technical preparations for production. The importance of the thesis laid in the lack of designers in the local market specializing in musicians’ and performers’ costumes, and the fact that foreign e-stores offer a few stage costumes that do not meet the costumers’ expectations in terms of quality and looks. Therefore, almost the only option for a soloartist and musical groups, who are looking for originality, is to have them custom-tailored. During discussions with the customers, mainly „estrada“ and „disco-like glow“ stood out. And this is what the 18 items of four product groups were inspired by. The collection consists of the following product groups: men’s white dress shirt, embellished with ribbons in the front or on the sleeves in the same tone as the jacket, black suit pants, grey jacket and waistcoat with silver glow. When drawing the collection and choosing the fabrics, the designers took into account the musicians’ positioning on the stage, the instruments they play and the comfort. Because of this, for example, three brass players always standing next to each other make up their own sub-collection when it comes to the placement of the ribbons, while being part of the whole as an ensemble. Or was the placement of the ribbon affected by the instrument played – bass player has it on the sleeve to prevent fading due to the instrument’s band, and on the front for the drummer as only there it would be visible. In addition, the eye-catching visual effect, easy-to-maintain and wrinkling factors played an important role in choosing the fabrics. The shirt is made of cotton fabric that includes polyester, which is non-wrinkling, breathable and skin-friendly. For the pants, 100% wool was chosen, as this is easy-to-form and maintain. The jacket and waistcoat are made of 100% polyester. This was chosen due to the visual effect – the customers requested for products that shine and are disco-like. Sequin fabric was considered as well, but was rejected as jersey fabric is easier to process. As the jersey is rather thin, all details of this material are duplicated in full. The authors of the thesis were in close collaboration with the customers throughout the process. Thanks to this, they received useful input from the musicians’ previous experience regarding the fabrics, and suitable and non-suitable items. As a result, an original and visually effective 18-piece collection was created that adds to the band’s visual identity.
