Abstract

Viimsi on kiiresti arenev vald, mille elanike arv on võrreldav Eesti keskmiste linnadega. Projekteeritav hoone on mõeldud kujunema Viimsi kultuurielu peamiseks tõmbekeskuseks, kuhu on koondatud peamised kultuurielu edendavad funktsioonid.

Abstract [en]

As a part of the graduation thesis, the author designed the Viimsi Concert Hall and Cultural Centre at the Viimsi rural municipality, Haabneeme small town. The author chose this subject since the Viimsi rural municipality has longed to enrich the community’s cultural life with the help of a concert hall and cultural centre for a long time. Viimsi is a rapidly developing municipality and its population numbers can be compared to those of middle-scale Estonian cities. Proceeding from that, Viimsi must consider the needs of a city in order to keep the municipality on the track of positive development. The designed building has multiple functions and it comprises of the Concert Hall and Cultural Centre. In detail, the building is designed with a Concert Hall that seats approximately 550; additionally, the Viimsi Library, Hobby Centre and Art School will be accommodated on the premises. The idea is to focus various leisure activities into one complex building so that Viimsi would have a single cultural centre. The building consists of three spatial structures: the Concert Hall space; lobby/café/restaurant space, and library/art school/hobby centre space. The building’s units shall have a common lobby and main entrance that service all four functions. This allows saving resources since all the units also have a common coat check, security room, and information desk. What is more, the halls, meeting rooms and many other spaces are also in joint use. The spatial structure of the building has been blended into the landscape. The concept was to create a lower structure that blends with the hill when viewed from the land, and a higher as well as more attractive structure when viewed from the sea. In order to achieve this, the building has been excavated into the land—it has three to four floors when viewed from the sea, and two floors when viewed from the land. The purpose of the work was to create better and more modern ways of spending leisure time for the growing population of Viimsi. The designed building is intended to develop into Viimsi’s main cultural centre, which unites the key functions that promote culture.
