Abstract

Oluline on informatsiooni olemasolu.

Abstract [en]

The following thesis Factors Influencing Students’ Intention to Recycle aims to found out students recycling behaviour. Europe is consistently becoming more environment-friendly and therefore fewer environmental problems are created. Today’s laws regulate the behaviour of people and larger enterprises to a fairly great extent. Estonia follows the European standards. Waste sorting would reduce the amount of waste generated and result in less waste dumped and cleaner environment. Human behaviour and intentions to sort are explained by a number of theories. The final paper is based on the theory of planned behaviour. The theory of planned behaviour consists of different parts such as attitude, discomfort, knowledge, previous behaviour, control of perceived behaviour, and planned behaviour. All those parts are interconnected to some extent. The main objective of the final paper was to study how students of the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences deal with the sorting of waste. A questionnaire was drawn up to achieve the objective. Its results showed that students of the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences have a positive attitude towards the sorting of the waste. Sorting is affected by a number of important factors, such as availability of information, inconvenience, family and friends, past habits, intentions and attitudes. The student's attitude towards the sorting of waste plays the most important role at it. If a person has the willingness to sort waste, it is more likely that he or she will do it. Students would sort more waste if they had enough information on how to sort the waste and what will happen to the sorted waste after the sorting. Comparison between the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences and the University of Twente showed that students from the University of Twente are more diligent sorters at home than students of the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences. On the other hand, students of the Tallinn University of Technology take sorting at school more seriously than students of the University of Twente. Sorting at home takes quite a lot of space, therefore students are not in favour of sorting at home. At the Tallinn University of Applied Science, good conditions have been created for the sorting of waste, which make sorting simple, fast and comfortable. There is little information about waste sorting at the University of Twente. Therefore, sorters of waste are not so mettlesome at that university. Lack of time is a reason for sorting less. Students at the University of Twente have less time to deal with the sorting of waste than students at the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences. Thanks to the research done within the final paper, information was gained what the attitude of the students of the Tallinn University of Technology towards sorting is. Nowadays, sorting is gaining popularity among young people, so students will increasingly sort waste in the future. It is important to have information available.
