Abstract

Käesolevas lõputöös käsitles töö autor tee ehitamist turbapinnastele ning keskendus meetodile, kus turvast ei eemaldata, vaid jäetakse rajatava konstruktsiooni alla. Lõputöö teema valiku tingis Maanteeameti poolt tellitud Kose-Võõbu katselõik ning sellele järgnenud lõpparuanne, lisaks töö autori isiklik huvi antud teemast rohkem aimu saada. Turba tehnilis-mehaanilised omadused teevad sellele ehitamise keerulisemaks võrreldes mineraalpinnastega, seetõttu on äärmiselt oluline mõista selle materjali (turba) omadusi. Antud töö esimeses osas käsitles töö autor turba alljärgnevaid omadusi: kõrge loomulik niiskusesisaldus, suur kokkusurutavus, madal nihketugevus. Peatükis kirjeldatakse ka eelpool mainitud omaduste määramiseks kasutatavaid katseid. Töö teine osa on suunatud turbale tee projekteerimise ja ehitamisele kehtestatud nõuetele. Antud peatükis viidatud punktid pärinevad 1966. a.

Abstract [en]

The aim of the current thesis is to provide an overview of possibilities of constructing roads on peat soil. Peat differs from other mineral soils in terms of its physical-mechanical properties, making it necessary to increase its bearing capacity prior to any construction. In the thesis, the author gives an overview of peat soil and characteristics of constructing roads on peat soil and, in the last part of the paper, introduces some of the more interesting constructive solutions implemented primarily in Scandinavia during the last decades. The first part of the thesis focuses on the characteristics of peat as a mineral resource as well as a soil, its differences compared to other soils and the main tests used for determining important parameters of peat. The second part of the thesis provides an overview of the rules and regulations regarding constructing roads on peat soil. The author discusses “Instructions on designing, building and reconstructing embankments and drainage layers” and “Regulations on designing highways” in force in the Republic of Estonia. Further recommendations from previously effective regulations on designing roads on peat soil have also been added. The third part focuses on various possibilities of constructing on peat soil and, in particular, situations when peat is not removed prior to construction. The third and the last paragraph are mainly based on the summary of the ROADEX programme, an international project funded by the EU that includes Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Scotland. The third paragraph describes the use of the following methods: preloading, vertical drainage and surcharging, stage construction or stage loading, profile lowering, stabilising berms, slope reduction, lightweight fill, offloading, reinforcement, piling, and mass stabilisation. The fourth part of the thesis is compiled of design solutions of interest to the author that involve using lightweight construction materials, such as light gravel, wood chips/bark, EPS plates, and used tires The thesis does not cover calculations needed for constructing roads but is limited to introducing the theoretical background. Engineering technical calculations on the subject could constitute as a continuation of the thesis in the form of a master’s thesis. The current thesis is mainly of use to first-year engineering students as well as road builders as it provides a comprehensive overview of the characteristics of constructing roads on peat soil.
