Abstract

Läbi aegade on põlevkivi olnud meile väga tähtis.

Abstract [en]

For centuries, the oil shale has been very important to Estonia country as natural resource. This resource supplies us with electricity and oil every day, about a hundred of years, and it will continue. With all the positive sides of oil shale mining, beneficiation and production of electricity, there are a number of drawbacks. Specially, all this activities refers to environmental pollution and the enormous amounts of residual materials, which are ash, gangue and waste rock. Nowadays, it becomes more and more important. Researches are searching for alternative decisions for oil shale waste usage. Limestone aggregate is separated from oil shale layers by different methods, oil shale ash and waste rock are used in various industry areas and construction works as well. Unfortunately this aggregate, which occurs with oil shale production is not so good as it may be, and it is used in quite a small amount of whole production. There still is no decision for massive waste rock and ash usage. This work presents a great opportunity to work out a decision how to improve environmental situation and create a beautiful landscape using waste rock, ash hills or gangue hills and build a resort place. With this 3D landscape decision a healthy lifestyle and variety of sports facilities are promoted, improved environmental conditions and created a bigger tourists attraction with fitness centre in Kohtla-Nõmme station.
