Abstract

Hoonet projekteerides on arvesse võetud dementsetele omaseid käitumismustreid. Aatriumisse on loodud soodne keskkond aiandusega tegelemiseks. SAatrium on aastaringselt roheline.

Abstract [en]

Dementia is mostly common in our senior years. Until now, there is no special hospital, hospice or nursing home for people who suffer from dementia. In modern-day society dementia is one of the leading problems considering health-care and especially among elderly people. Senior citizens with this disease need more care and attention than their coevals. Ordinary nursing homes cannot handle people who have dementia very well, because of the special care and attention they need. Dementia is not a normal health development and it does not come with ageing. It is a health disorder which progresses in time. There is no cure for that illness, but we can slow it down. Best options for that are activities, memory training, brain games, communication with others etc. Dementia is a brain disorder. With that disease the person will lost its short-time memory by time. He doesn’t remember what he did, where has he been or how to get back to the place his journey began. Projecting and designing this building is based on the needs of those people. Rooms and their placements are designed especially for people who have short-memory and so that they can find way back easily and do not get lost. Circle corridors help the residents to get where they want to go and make finding right spot/room easier. With rounded hallways, there is a little change to get lost totally, even after some attempts and circles you can find what the right place where were you heading to. In that building there is two types of circle hallways: department hallways and one main atrium hallway. Room program created for this building consists of 8 departments which are equally distributed in two floors. Each floor has four different departments, each has its own unique color. So, it would be better to remember for the patients in which department they live. Divisions are divided by four colors: blue, yellow, green, and purple. The ground floor of the building is a more ease off than the first floor and is mostly used for free time and social activities. Lobby, four departments, cafeteria, library and a recreation area and an atrium are located on the ground floor. First floor has departments and medical facilities. (E.g. group therapy, doctors, offices, etc.). The atrium is in its concept as an outdoor courtyard, which is protected from the weather with a pyramid-shaped window. People who are recommended not to go outdoors, because of their poor health, can now enjoy nature indoors. Residents have the opportunity of gardening and indoor (urban) farming and with that they can shape and design their own environment. The atrium is green all year round and has various flowerbeds so patients can deal with gardening even in winter time.
