Abstract

Pargi kujundus loob ala keskele aktiivse sportimis keskkonna.

Abstract [en]

The diploma thesis provides one possible location for the Estonian-Finnish railway sea link terminal in Tallinn. The selected site is located in North-Tallinn, between two historical milieu valuable areas, on the Kopli freight station territory. The 36 hectare industrial railway site which interrupts the cityscape is planned to be broadened and made into a new public center of attraction. Kopli freight station is in need of a fresher look and to integrate the area with the city. The planned areas for parks and sports activities should create cozy hangout places in the center of Tallinn and encourage the concentration of residents in the region which should prompt the industrial companies out of the city area. The design will create an active sports area in the middle of the grounds. To the northern part of the area are planned tranquil and still recreational areas with a number of pools and fountains. Southern part where the terminal lies, will create an active street front towards the Tellikivi street. The terminal building shape and facade follows the disain of a bridge, connecting Kalamaja and Pelgulinna – two historically isolated areas. The building volume is created in such way that it is possible to walk over it and at the highest point creating a platform with panoramic views of the old city, the sea, the planned public green and recreational areas and the nearby cityscape. In this thesis presented vision for Kopli freight station as a possible location for the Estonian-Finnish fixed railway link Tallinn terminal. The project has a great potential to become the next big attraction for local citizens and also for tourists.
