Abstract

Hea tänava loomiseks ei ole kindlat valemit: isegi, kui kõike justkui õigesti (by the book) teha, ei pruugi tänav siiski tööle hakata. Vaja on ka veidi müstikat. Ehk peitub see müstika koha omapäras, koha vaimus. Soovisin lahendusse kaasata vihjed paiga erinevatele ajaloolistele kihistustele. Parkimishoonete mahte olen kasutanud kõrgema tasapinna avaliku ruumi loomiseks. Ringikujulise parkimismaja puhul on park parkimisala keskel ning amfiteatrilaadselt langev trepistik tagab kogu päeva jooksul päikselise koha olemasolu. Teiselt on ringikujuline käidav katusepind sobiv koht ka sportimiseks. Kolmnurkse hoone parkimisala peal asuv haljastusaukudega katusepark aga tagab kõrgemate hoonete vahel enam päikesevalgust võrreldes maapinnal asuvaga. Sarnased lahendused oleks kasutatavad ka mujul.

Abstract [en]

Mustamäe tee is physically, historically and symbolically a beginning of Kristiine district of Tallinn. This area is dynamic – it has significantly changed during its history (from hayfield to few summer manors and from manors to industrial area). Moreover it has been “an engine” of these changes, i.e. always the first to change. This street is also an arena of contradictions: contradictions of different functions, volumes and environments. It seems that the end of an era will soon arrive and the question remains how the new era will look like. In my thesis “Urban Vision of Mustamäe tee” I propose a vision of this new era. The location is perfect. 10minutes from the city centre and right next to Merimetsa and Stroomi recreational area. It has a potential to be a small “pull-centre”. But currently, the place is almost abandoned by pedestrians. My aim is to bring the life and attract pedestrians to Mustamäe tee – to make a street out of the road. Therefore a great emphasis is on creating public space. As the traffic is heavy public parks and squares step into inner quarters and roadside buildings party separate them from the road. Significant part of the public space is lifted: pedestrian bridges over the road, alternative route above the street level, connected with lifted public spaces on the roof of the parking spaces, roof gardens. A concept of the solution includes hints to the historical layers of the area. As the area is dynamic, my whole housing proposal is also dynamic (round building as a gearwheel, the bridges “flying” over the road etc). Due to its location and history the place is also perfect for a museum of science, technology, and industry. The alternative pedestrian route is party a conservatory (botanical garden) as a reference to the era of Kristiine hayfields. I also try to reconcile different volumes and functions. Main conception of the housing is to use partitioned volumes, so that the house may simultaneously look massive and small and thereby smoothly connect high rise building on Mustamäe tee with garden city in inner blocks. The round building is massive and high next to Mustamäe tee but kind of scatters to the direction of inner blocks. A proposed terrace house (vertical garden) on Välja street will mitigate a sharp contrast of nine-storied massive apartment building and 1.5-storied detached houses. I propose two multifunctional complex buildings – one on the corner of Paldiski mnt and the other to the location of current massive industrial buildings. The main division of both buildings is that business premises are close to the Mustamäe tee and living premises towards inner blocks and between them is multi-level public space. I started my thesis with an idea of reconciliation but the result is more looking into the future, which is exactly the essence of this area.
