Abstract

Abstract [en]

The goal of this diploma thesis is to design the Rail Baltic Ülemiste Transportation Hub in the city of Tallinn. City’s different types of public transportation like airport, railway and bus station are located in different parts of the city and have no comfortable transportation connection between them. Existing transportation system does not offer comfortable usability and connections. This situation does not provide effective access to the different parts of the city. This causes obstacles and time losses for the users of the public transportation network. Rail Baltic Transportation Hub brings together city buses and trams, domestic and international buses and trains. The bus and train terminal building with the commercial area and the city square nearby is planned to the location. The attractive public transport and the high-quality Transportation Hub is one way to reduce the use of the private transport. The project was based on the fact that the new Transportation Hub must be balanced with the proportions of both the city and the human scale. Suggested solution proposes to create a functional modular system with unique interior, which allows it to expand, if necessary, in different directions, so that could be noticeable both from the ground and the sky. The building's internal routing is simple and convenient. Design tries to minimize emergence of movement obstacles. The terminal waiting rooms have the view of both bus and train platforms.
